My name is Adrianna C. I am a sophomore at Cuba High School. I have been in Evolvement for two years and a member of the Leadership Team for one year. Tobacco, in my opinion, is a very dangerous substance that is currently consuming the lives of young people.
24/7 is a campaign I support through Evolvement that is helping create tobacco-free school campuses across New Mexico. It is important that our schools become tobacco-free in order to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone on campus. Tobacco can drastically impact the health and growth of everyone, especially youth. As a student that is educated about the effects of tobacco on a youth’s brain and body, I worry when I see my peers abusing tobacco products. Having younger siblings, I want a tobacco-free campus so I can be sure that they are safe from the harmful effects of tobacco.
When a school district adopts a tobacco-free policy, it not only creates a healthier school environment but also a healthier community. The good news is, this is already happening in so many school districts across the state. My very own community, Cuba Independent School District, is very proud to be one of them as of September 2019! As an Evolvement Leadership Team member in a comprehensive school district, I am striving to inform and offer help to our principals as needed. 24/7 is working diligently to improve the number of tobacco-free school districts every year, and I am proud to be a part of this work!
